On the 23rd of December 2005 S.V.A.T.(Studie Vereniging Advanced Technology) Astatine was founded by Stefan van Nierop, Brigitte Bruijns, Mark van Schagen and Jouke Hofman, together they formed the first board of the association. Before, all Advanced Technology students were members of S.V. Arago, but there was a demand for a separate association.
In 2006 Astatine participated for the first time with an Advanced Technology (AT) student only team in the Batavierenrace. To keep in line with the internationalisation of the association, as well as the inclusion of Nanotechnology, it was decided that the abbreviation S.V.A.T. (Studie Vereniging Advanced Technology) should be changed to S.A. (Study Association). From the 6th of September 2018, the name of the association is officially S.A. Astatine.
